Ting-Wei Chen (1990, Taipei)
Born in Taipei in 1990, internationally acclaimed flutist Ting-Wei Chen performs as soloist, chamber musician and principal flutist of the Oslo Philharmonic. The Engagements have taken him to the most prestigious concert halls: Vienna Musikverein, London’s Albert Hall, New York’s Carnegie Hall, Paris’ Philharmonie, Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, Berlin Konzerthaus among others.
Ting-Wei Chen has received numerous 1st prizes at international competitions including Budapest International Flute Competition in Hungary, Friedrich Kuhlau Flute Competition in Germany and International Competition for Japanese and Bulgarian Music in Bulgaria.
Ting-Wei has appeared as a soloist with orchestras across Norway, Austria, Hungary, Denmark, Poland, and Taiwan, and performed Carl Nielsen’s Flute Concerto with the Oslo Philharmonic in 2025. His previous orchestral roles include positions with the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich, Augsburger Philharmonie, and the Bruckner Orchester Linz.
Dedicated to chamber music and new music, Ting-Wei regularly collaborates with artists around the globe, and has appeared at festivals such as ECMA, Horten Festival, and in venues from Vienna to Tokyo.
In addition to performing, Ting-Wei is an experienced educator. He taught concert flute study (Konzertfach) at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (MDW) from 2020 to 2024, where he also earned his Magister Artium with distinction under Prof. Barbara Gisler-Haase, and later completed advanced studies in music physiology postgraduate study. He also studied contemporary music with Prof. Andrea Lieberknecht-Jensen in Munich.
Ting-Wei is passionate about sharing his knowledge with the next generation of musicians, offering masterclasses and coaching at festivals such as the Flute Festival Singapore, Maestrio Flute Festival, and the Wiener Musikseminar since 2022.
